WPA Inspired Mural - Public Art in Montpelier

Please join artist and Executive Director Sabrina Fadial to create a mural for the Montpelier Transit Center. The T.W.Wood WPA Youths Summer Camp has designed the mural, drawing inspiration from WPA muralists such as Willem de Kooning, Ilya Bolotowsky, Ben Shahn, and Arshile Gorky. At 3pm on July 3rd, during the City’s Independence Day celebrations, a community paint by numbers completing the mural will take place on the state house lawn.

What is the WPA?
In 1935 President Franklin Roosevelt created The Works Progress Administration (WPA). It was an ambitious employment and infrastructure program that lasted eight years. The WPA put roughly 8.5 million Americans to work building schools, hospitals, roads and other public works. The WPA also sponsored projects in the arts employing tens of thousands of actors, musicians, writers and artists.
