Status: Part Time OR Exempt (full-time salaried)
Salary Range: Part Time: $22/hr at 30 hours/week OR Exempt: $40,000-$50,000

Position Summary
Help strengthen and preserve the Central Vermont art community’s heritage and future as Executive Director of The T.W. Wood Gallery. Your engaged, entrepreneurial leadership and commitment to art, creativity, donor relations, and operations will inspire and benefit the gallery’s staff, volunteers, and local artists as well as the Central Vermont community as a whole.
We’re looking for proven leadership, hands on operational management, community building, and passion for art in the community. Educational experience, working with a Board of Trustees, budgeting, planning, and fundraising are also desirable.
This position has the potential to be part-time or exempt (salaried) depending on candidate skills and experience.

The T.W. Wood Gallery: A Museum of American Art is located in Montpelier, Vt. at the Center for Arts & Learning. Founded in 1895 by American painter and Montpelier native Thomas Waterman Wood (1823-1903), the gallery has one of the state’s largest permanent collections, with four distinct galleries: a contemporary gallery, a T.W. Wood gallery, a Works Progress Administration gallery, and a rotating gallery made available to external artists and organizations. Reports to: Board of Directors
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage 2-3 staff, gallery volunteers, and an active board
- Oversee all gallery operations with an eye toward process and operational improvement
- Fundraise for gallery operations and special initiatives through grant writing, solicitation of private donations, and deepening the gallery's relationship with key stakeholders
- Work with gallery staff to plan and implement gallery shows and events – including summer camps, show openings, art walks, meetings, conferences
- Promote the gallery to the general public through social media, earned media, and paid advertising
- Be on-site during after school and camp programming to lend a helping hand
- Work with staff and the board treasurer to manage the gallery’s budget, bookkeeping, and payroll
- Liaise daily with gallery visitors as well as guests at exhibit openings and special events – maintaining a warm, welcoming and respectful atmosphere at the Gallery and with the public.
Requirements:
- 2 years’ minimum experience at the managerial level (ideally arts, education, or nonprofit sector)
- A passion for the arts and arts education
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated track record of project management, execution and problem solving
- An organized and systematic approach to day-to-day work
- Successfully pass a background check
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
